ARCHIVED - Valencia-based firm wins 4-billion-euro contract to export Alicante tram model
The Citylink tram has been used in Alicante, Benidorm and Denia for 20 years and is manufactured on the Costa Blanca

Stadler Rail Valencia has scooped a four-billion-euro contract – the biggest in its history – to manufacture and deliver 504 Citylink trams to Germany and Austria.
Manufactured at the Swiss multinational's plant in Albuixech, Valencia, the tram model has been in operation, running from Alicante to Benidorm and Denia, for 20 years as part of an agreement with Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat Valenciana (Valencia Government Railways).
In a statement, Stadler explained that the multibillion-euro order has been made by a consortium of six German and Austrian operators as part of a VDV-Tram-Train project operating in both countries.
The deal will initially start with the production of 246 Citylink vehicles, at a cost of approximately 1.7 billion euros, and will continue with the purchase of a further 258 trams for the remaining amount.
In addition, Stadler will be responsible for maintenance for up to 32 years.
