ARCHIVED - Valladolid man jailed for sexually assaulting pregnant former partner
The man became enraged when he saw that the woman was wearing a man’s shirt in Valladolid, Spain
The Valladolid Provincial Court has sentenced a man to nine years and ten months in prison for sexually assaulting his pregnant ex-partner, after "getting jealous" when she wore a man’s shirt.
The court heard that the perpetrator insisted on seeing his ex to discuss their unborn child on January 22 and flew into a rage when he saw her attire, assuming that she had another boyfriend. Despite the fact that they are no longer together, the man demanded that she not have relationships with other men before attacking her.
Lawyers for the victim insisted that the accused created a “climate of fear” whereby the woman was forbidden to have sexual relationships with other men.
After she was sexually assaulted, the woman phoned a friend, who in turn called the emergency services.
At the trial, the woman denied a second episode of violence that she had previously reported, something which the Public Prosecutor suggested she did “because of the fear she had of the accused”, who was also present in the courtroom.
Despite this, the man was convicted of sexual assault with penetration and threatening behaviour, for which he received a custodial sentence of almost ten years and has been forbidden from coming within 500 metres of his victim for the next 12 years.
