ARCHIVED - Villajoyosa listens to citizen views on climate change for new action plan
All local residents are invited to complete a survey saying how the Marina Baixa town can improve
Villajoyosa Town Council has committed to taking citizens’ views and opinions into account when it comes to climate-friendly and energy saving measures in the town.
With the aim of involving local people in the town’s formal proposal for environmental actions to the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy, the Ayuntamiento has made a survey available for all local citizens to participate and have their say on the ecological future of their town.
This survey will be available for the next two weeks or so and can be accessed here (only in Spanish and Valencià): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA4ndhoB-tXa3z0h7dmj_hT6inVomwcPGso8aqsEHORtOs4Q/viewform
Villajoyosa has seen environmental abuses recently, such as the illegal dumping of chicken carcasses in the town’s waterways.
History of climate action in Villajoyosa
In 2014 Villajoyosa Town Council joined the Covenant of Mayors and in 2019 the Covenant of Mayors on Climate and Energy, the largest global movement of cities for local action on climate and energy, in which all signatories (currently more than 10,000) share a common vision to accelerate decarbonisation, strengthen their capacity to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change and ensure that their citizens enjoy access to secure, sustainable and affordable energy.
Key commitments include reducing CO2 emissions (and other greenhouse gas emissions) by at least 40% by 2030, in particular through improved energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy sources. At the same time, it aims to increase resilience by adapting to the impacts of climate change.
