ARCHIVED - Weather warnings for freezing temperatures in the Region of Murcia: January 20 and 21
Temperatures are forecast to be as low as -6º in the north of Murcia
The freezing forecast for this week in the Region of Murcia is living up to expectations, with the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) issuing several more weather warnings.
Yellow alerts have been issued for Thursday January 20, until 10am, and again on Friday January 21 from midnight until 10am. Both weather warnings are for minimum temperatures of around -5 or -6º in the Altiplano de Murcia.
However, despite the northernmost area of the Region having the lowest temperatures, the rest of Murcia hasn’t escaped the cold this week and farmers in several municipalities, including Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras, Cieza and Jumilla, have reported a devastating effect on their crops, especially sensitive plants such as artichoke and lettuce.
Cloudy skies and dotted showers are on their way to join the cold weather, with this weekend forecast to be a drizzly one across the entire Region. The highest maximum temperature predicted for Saturday is just 14ºC along the coast, while inland areas won’t get much warmer than 10ºC even in the middle of the day.
