ARCHIVED - Weekend figures show a further decrease in Covid cases in Alicante and across the region of Valencia
644 new cases in the region and 253 in the province of Alicante
In the official daily coronavirus update published by the regional government on 21st February there were 644 new coronavirus cases reported in the region of Valencia and 253 in the province of Alicante. The current 7-day average of new positive coronavirus tests in the Comunidad Valenciana is 1,555.3, compared to the average on 1st February, which was 7,469.4, illustrating how the number of new daily cases has been steadily decreasing across the region.
The figure of 253 in the province of Alicante is the lowest since the start of the third wave and is significantly lower than the 7-day daily average in the province, which is 608.3.
In addition, the number of coronavirus patients in the province’s hospitals is also declining, with 658 people currently hospitalized, including 144 patients in intensive care. The total number of hospital patients in the region of Valencia is 1,560.
With under 20,000 active cases in the region the third wave is definitely subsiding, but there is still a high risk of transmission and case numbers could well rise again once the regional government lifts some of the current restrictions, almost certainly in the first week of March.
