ARCHIVED - Window to pay property and land taxes in Cartagena open now, ending on August 5
The council has provided instructions for property-owners to pay the tax online or in-person
Be aware that each of the 45 municipal councils within the Murcia region have their own timetable for IBI payments, so the timing will not necessarily be the same everywhere. This article relates to the Cartagena municipality which also includes Los Nietos, Cabo de Palos, Galifa and La Azohía.
The Cartagena municipal council has issued the billss for various property taxes or IBI, which are payable from Tuesday (June 1) to Thursday (August 5).
In total, 198,194 bills have been issued, for Urban IBI tax (IBI naturaleza Urbana), Rural IBI tax (IBI naturaleza Rústica) and special circumstance IBI tax (IBI de características especiales, BICE), which add up to a total value of over 69.3 million euros.
These taxes make up around 32.3 per cent of the expected revenue for 2021 and most of the receipts are for the Urban IBI tax.
Around 578 buildings in Cartagena are exempt from paying this tax, including those which are considered Items of Cultural Interest (BIC) or public institutions, such as schools, universities and military bases.
For most property owners, this is the tax closest to the "rates" bill paid in the UK and levied by a local council.
Property-owners can pay the tax in several different ways including online or at the bank or the post office.
The payment can be made on the online OAGRC website (https://sede.oagrc.es/) using a credit or debit card. Those who haven’t received their receipt yet can also view or download a copy from this website.
There are also Personalized Payment Plans available on the OACGRC website, although the window to submit an application for the plans has already finished. Direct deposits could also be set up until May 31.
To pay the IBI tax in person, you can go to any office or automatic cash point at any of the collaborating banks (Bankia, Caixabank, Cajamar and Banco de Sabadell). Additionally, the receipt can also be paid at any Correos post office.
The council reminds property-owners that the voluntary period to make these payments ends on August 5.
