ARCHIVED - Woman arrested in Los Alcazares for providing false padron certificates
An investigation revealed that several people of different nationalities were all registered under the same address
Officers from the Policía Nacional in Los Alcázares have arrested a woman, of Spanish nationality, for document falsification, as she had been providing fake ‘empadronamientos’, an official document which proves residence at a certain address, for cash payments of between 300 and 400 euros.
The Unit Against Immigration Network and Document Falsification (UCRIF) was first made aware of the woman’s fraudulent business when they noticed a constant flow of ‘empadronamientos’ of foreigners in the municipality of Los Alcazarés.
Although large amounts of new registrations and de-registrations are not uncommon in a coastal area like Los Alcázares, investigators noticed that many of these ‘empadronamientos’ were for the same property and lasted for under three years.
In addition, those who were registered under that address were of different nationalities, including Moroccan, Indian and Spanish.
After further investigation, the UCRIF determined that none of these people had ever actually lived at this residence. The recipients of the false ‘empadronamientos’ required these documents to carry out different kinds of bureaucratic procedures, such as applying for a health card or enrolling their children at a local school.
The 49-year-old woman had been offering ‘help’ to acquire a registration document in exchange for a cash payment, which was always in-person and between 300 and 400 euros. She then made an appointment at the Town Hall and prepared all the necessary documentation.
If the person who had received the false ‘empadronamiento’ needed any further documents to be delivered to the property, the woman charged them an additional 50 euros.
