ARCHIVED - Xabia police welcome new super sniffer Khalan to the team
Khalan will join Kosmo in intensive sniffer training, specialising in locating missing people and search and rescue operations in the Marina Alta area of Alicante province
The Policía Local of Xábia (Javea/Xávia), located on the northern coast of the province of Alicante, has welcomed a new team member to the force; a Belgian Malinois puppy called Khalan who will provide the keenest nose in the force to sniff out the tracks of missing people in search and rescue ops, as well as helping to follow the trail of a few mis-doers during the course of his working week.
The puppy is working with the same trainer who is preparing Kosmo, another canine member of the Xábia police force, who will be trained to search for drugs and participate in security protocols for special events; Kosmo will also take part in educational and prevention activities.
Once Khalan has completed his training he will specialise in search and rescue and will be an important resource available to rescue teams in Xábia, and anywhere else his services are required.
On Tuesday (May 4), officers from the Policía Local introduced the two dogs, Khalan and Kosmo, to the mayor of Xábia, José Chulvi, and Kosmo gave a demonstration of his drug-finding abilities.
The police force has welcomed their new members with enthusiasm and are excited to put them to work as soon as they are fully trained.
