ARCHIVED - British tourist, 20, found dead on Mallorca beach
Police officers reportedly found a notebook containing suicidal thoughts on the Spanish shoreline
The lifeless body of a 20-year-old British man was pulled from sea in Mallorca shortly before 10.30am on Tuesday December 6. The victim is believed to have been a tourist, and early police reports suggest that a notebook containing suicidal thoughts was recovered from the shore at Can Picafort beach, close to where he was found.
A local resident was out walking yesterday morning when he spotted the young man in the water. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, since the headquarters of both the National Police and the Guardia Civil are very close to the beach.
Located in the north-east of the island, Can Picafort beach is just a stone’s throw away from the popular Mar y Paz Hotel.
According to witnesses who crowded the promenade to watch the horrifying scene unfold, a police officer jumped into the sea to rescue the man. The victim was transferred by ambulance to hospital and although paramedics carried out CPR, the young tourist was pronounced dead a short time later.
Several sources claim that the Briton died from drowning, but the Guardia Civil has opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
