ARCHIVED - British woman, 50, dies in Tenerife hit and run
Police in Spain are still trying to track down the driver, who fled the scene
A British woman who was mowed down in a horrific hit and run in the south of the Spanish island of Tenerife has sadly died from her injuries. The 50-year-old was out walking with her mother at around 8.30pm on Sunday in the residential area of Miguel de Adona when a white van mounted the footpath and struck the pair from behind.
Both women were rushed to hospital and, according to official reports, the daughter passed away on Thursday December 15 after suffering a severe head injury. Her mother, who is understood to be in her mid-70s, endured moderate rib trauma and has since been released from hospital.
A spokesperson for a regional emergency response group explained: "The emergency call we received said the two women were injured by a vehicle that mounted the pavement."
Witnesses to the shocking accident claim that the driver of the van stopped briefly after mounting the curb and hitting the women but quickly fled the scene when he saw the extent of their injuries.
A Guardia Civil team is working with the local police to track down the driver of the van.
It is not yet known whether the Britons were living in Tenerife or on holiday there.
