ARCHIVED - Gold bullion seized from passenger at Palma airport
The precious metal had an estimated value of 47,000 euros
The Guardia Civil has confiscated almost a kilo of gold bullion from a passenger at Palma airport worth approximately 47,000 euros. According to a statement released by officials on Sunday November 7, the passenger was attempting to travel from the Son Sant Joan airport to Hamburg with 45 gold bars, weighing in at 950 grams, without declaring them at customs.
By law, all travellers must make a customs declaration when carrying cash or a means of payment (in the case of gold or other precious metals) that exceeds 10,000 euros in value.
The bullion will be deposited at the Banco de España de Palma office at the disposal of the Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Monetary Offenses.
