ARCHIVED - 10-year-old girl injured by wild boar on Spanish beach
Wild boar attacks are becoming more common on beaches and in streets throughout Spain

A young child had to be hospitalised after she was attacked by a wild boar while playing on the beach near the Casino de Cadaqués in Girona on Monday night, August 1. The 10-year-old girl was having fun with other children on the seashore while her parents and uncles sat nearby when the wild animal lunged, gouging her leg with one of its long tusks.
Because of the seriousness of the wound, the Emergency Medical Service was called to the beach and the little girl was transferred immediately to a nearby primary care centre in Cadaqués. After being examined by medics, the child was then moved to the Figueres Hospital, where she received stitches on her leg.
The girl is currently at home, recovering from her injuries.
Wild boars are venturing from their natural habitats and into populated areas more and more recently and a problem that was once typical of cities like Barcelona is spreading. In this area of the Costa Brava, it is now not uncommon to see the animals braving the beaches and streets in search of food, especially during the summer season.
In the Catalan capital alone, 196 wild boars were culled last year.
Back in June, a 67-year-old woman was bitten on the leg by a boar at Raco beach in Albir and the month before, a dog was attacked by a group of the animals in Parcent.
