138 million euros for Torre Pacheco-Cartagena AVE
New work will get underway to create the Torre Pacheco-Cartagena section of the eventual AVE high-speed train line
Spain’s Council of Ministers has authorised the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to put out to tender, via the company Adif Alta Velocidad, the construction of the high-speed section of railway between Torre Pacheco and Cartagena (Murcia) with an estimated budget of 138.3 million euros. With this investment, Cartagena moves one tiny step closer to getting the AVE high-speed trains that connect it to Murcia, the Mediterranean Corridor, Madrid and the rest of Spain and Europe, though they are unlikely to arrive before the end of this decade. The future railway section to be built between Cartagena and Torre Pacheco will be 9 kilometres long and will run parallel to the current conventional Chinchilla-Cartagena line and will have a double-track platform that is designed for maximum speeds of up to 250kmh.It will also incorporate new overpasses over the AP-7 motorway and the A-30 dual carriageway, and the project absolutely must take into account drainage constraints of the area as it crosses several Ramblas and flash flood overflow sites.Image: Adif/Ministerio de Transportes
