Click HereThis year’s Águilas Jazz Festival is proving a great success, and following the brilliant concert given last weekend by the American singer Carole Alston there is a sense of great expectation for the final event of the season, featuring the Cotijazz Big Band on August 26.
Carole Alston was accompanied by a superb quartet of musicians on saxophone, piano, bass and percussion, and performed a series of classic hits originally associated with stars such as Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong: the song “What a Wonderful World” was performed as a tribute to commemorate the 121st anniversary of the artist’s birth. During the evening the atmosphere of a New Orleans club was recreated in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, following up the very well-received concert by the Potato Head Jazz Band the night before.
The climax of this year’s festival is also in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos on Friday August 26 and tickets are still available at 15 euros each from the Bacantix website, from the Águilas Archaeological Museum, the Casa de la Cultura or from the Café Bar Sol y Mar.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
