23-year-old German tourist dies in Mallorca after falling from hotel balcony
The young man reportedly fell from the roof of the Spanish hotel while drunk
A 23-year-old German tourist died early this Tuesday morning, May 7, in Arenal de Palma (Mallorca) when he fell from the balcony of the Hotel Timor for reasons that are being investigated, according to sources close to the case.
The unfortunate incident occurred at around 3am on Tuesday, when the young man plunged from the hotel balcony. The preliminary investigation indicates that at the time of the incident he may have been trying to gain access to a room.
According to Mallorca Zeitung, the young man had arrived at the hotel apparently drunk after a night of partying. They also state that the tourist, who had travelled to the island that same day, was not wearing any shoes or trousers.
Jumping between and climbing around on balconies has, for some time now and for some inexplicable reason, been a popular pastime for drunken tourists in the Balearic Islands. Over the past few years countless people have died or been irreparably injured in falls during these dangerous stunts, which are known in Spanish as ‘balconing’.
