ARCHIVED - 38 delays but no cancellations at Andalucia airports as Ryanair strikes drag on
Both Malaga and Seville airports registered delayed flights on Monday July 18
As the Ryanair cabin crew strike entered its penultimate week in Spain on Monday July 18, wide-scale chaos was once again avoided, although the industrial action did result in significant disruption in Andalusia, with 38 flights suffering delays before 7pm.
Malaga airport was the worst affected, with a total of 25 delays (eleven departures and 14 arrivals), but Seville didn’t escape unscathed either, with six departures and seven arrivals delayed.
Despite the fact that both Ryanair and easyJet flight attendants are striking at bases across Spain throughout the month of July, summer air traffic is continuing much the same as normal, with only 1% of flights affected overall.
On Monday in general, by lunchtime ten flights had been cancelled in Spain as a result of the work stoppages – Barcelona’s El Prat bore the brunt, followed by Palma de Mallorca.
There are still several more days of Ryanair strikes to go; this week’s action runs until Thursday July 21 and the work stoppages will resume on Monday July 25 until July 28.
