ARCHIVED - 40 Celtic fans kicked off Spanish train for causing 1 hour delay with antisocial behaviour
The 'hooligans' were travelling on the Alicante-Madrid AVE before being removed by Spanish police
40 Celtic fans were kicked off a Madrid-bound AVE train from Alicante for antisocial behaviour, verbally abusing other passengers and rail workers and causing a 52-minute delay.
The Scottish 'hooligans' boarded a 2.45pm train in Alicante, but their journey was cut short less than an hour later due to their unruly and intimidating antics and the National Police booted them off the AVE at Vialia-Los Llanos station in Albacete.
The incident comes just a week after it was announced that 11 members of a bachelor party were court-ordered to pay rail operator Renfe 7,676 euros (697.82 euros each) for causing a substantial delay on the Madrid-Malaga AVE line.
According to police sources, passengers on the train from Alicante were so uneasy at sharing a carriage with the 40 football fans, they requested alternative seats. The train controller alerted the police once they had arrived in Albacete, and travellers were forced to wait almost an hour while the Celtic supporters were removed.
Renfe has confirmed the affected passengers will be "fully compensated" for the disruption.
