41 degrees and climbing: Andalusia weather forecast July 18-21
Several provinces in Andalucía have been issued with serious weather alerts for sky-high temperatures this weekend

Weather alerts for Friday
An anticyclone from Algeria is currently settling itself over Spain, plunging the country into the first heatwave of the year. This mass of warm, dry air, combined with plenty of bright sunshine, will push up the thermometers even further in Andalucía, and several yellow and orange alerts have been activated over the weekend.
An orange warning, which represents a “serious risk to health”, has been issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) from 1pm on Thursday July 18, impacting the Cordoba countryside, the Granada basin of the Genil, the Huelva regions of Andévalo and Condado, and the Jaén areas of Morena and Condado and the Guadalquivir Valley.
In addition, most of the south and east of Sevilla will likely reach 40ºC.
More suspended dust will also make an appearance, moving from south to north as the day goes on.
The thermometers will ramp up another notch on Friday July 19 so the orange alerts will remain in place for Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaen and Sevilla until 9pm, but the mercury won’t drop below the mid-20s on Friday night either.
The day could be slightly cloudy along the Mediterranean coast but it will be more overcast in mountainous areas of the east, where stormy showers could combine with the Saharan dust to create muddy rain.
The haze associated with the suspended dust should start to clear by mid-morning on Saturday July 20 and the rest of the day will be generally clear in most parts.
The lack of cloud cover means the temperatures will continue to rise, hitting a scorching 41ºC in the Cordoba, the only place that an orange alert remains.
Elsewhere, yellow alerts have been issued for Almería, Granada, Jaén, Málaga and Sevilla, where the mercury could still reach 39ºC.
Things should cool down significantly on Sunday July 21, and the day-time temperature in Cadiz will actually fall as low as 29ºC.

- Friday July 19: Min 20ºC; Max 43ºC
