As in countless other towns and villages throughout Spain, the national holiday of 8th December coincides with the feast day of the patron saint in La Azohía, where the local church is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción.
The figure of the Virgen de la Purísima Concepción, known locally as “La Purísima” is paraded from the eastern end of the area of San Ginés, at around 10.45, to the church in the village itself along the seafront, meaning that although this is one of the lesser attended processions in the region, it’s certainly one of the most picturesque. Accompanied by a musical band and the loud cracks of cohetes, the procession reaches the church at 12.00 for Mass, with refreshments served to attendees afterwards.
