ARCHIVED - A new giant mural of Carlos Alcaraz painted in El Palmar, Murcia
The district of Murcia city, home to the tennis star, has erected a new 400m2 tribute to their prodigal son

Carlos Alcaraz has established himself as the new golden boy of El Palmar and an icon of the Murcia Region after his stratospheric rise to fame as world number six in the men’s tennis rankings, winning the Mutua Madrid Open and getting to the quarter finals of Roland Garros. Now, a giant, 400m2 mural has been painted of him on Calle Mota Reguerón at the entrance to his home district of El Palmar.
While the mural has been painted right in the middle of Alcaraz’s boom in popularity, the Murcia city council had actually been considering the idea for months.
The mural was painted by Sbah, an artist from Mazarrón, and reflects the artist’s own distinctive style: irregular shapes with straight lines in blue, lilac, grey and white to immortalise a backhand of Carlos Alcaraz. With the help of two other young women from the Murcia Graffiti Office, Sbah completed the work in just 8 days, working 16 hours a day.
Even while the artist was putting on the final touches, the photographs began to circulate on social
networks without waiting for the official inauguration, which took place on Monday June 6 and which was attended by Carlos Alcaraz himself.

Mayor José Antonio Serrano addressed Alcaraz, assuring him that “you are going to give us a lot of joy and all of Murcia will be with you, encouraging you and pushing you towards success.”
He continued: “As Mayor of Murcia, I can only congratulate you for taking the name of our municipality and your district, El Palmar, around the world. You have become an unbeatable ambassador.”
