A wet and windy weekend: Murcia weather forecast February 8-11
The coast of Murcia is under alert for high winds and massive waves
Murcia weather warnings, Saturday February 10
What a difference a day makes! From lovely sunny weather, the coast of the Region of Murcia is going to be under yellow weather alerts for the next three days due to the effects of Storm Karlotta.
The Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued these weather warnings all along the coastline – including places like Mazarrón, Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar – for strong southwesterly winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour and waves up to three metres high.
In the face of these blustery conditions, people are advised to remove any bits that could be blown around from outside their homes, such as chairs or flowerpots, and to take care when walking under trees where there is a chance of branches falling. Care should also be taken when driving and it is not a good idea to go too near the sea, much less go sailing or swimming.
Along with the strong wind, dark clouds and rain will begin to sweep in from the west on the evening of Thursday February 8, turning the sunny skies grey. On Friday morning, February 9, most of the rain is forecast to be limited to the north and centre of the Region, including Mula, Bullas and Yecla.
As Friday wears on, most areas of Murcia will be touched by at least some light showers, turning to thunderstorms in the north on Friday night.

While Aemet is currently forecasting a dry and sunny Saturday despite the strong wind, Sunday 10 will be much cloudier again and more rainfall is forecast, especially in the north and centre of the Region and reaching down through Totana to Mazarrón. This rain is much needed after the recent dry spell; this January was the seventh driest of the 21st century. Temperatures are also expected to plummet on Sunday, with maximums struggling to hit 17ºC and minimums down to 2-8ºC, a good four or five degrees lower on both counts than it has been up until now.
For now, the forecast for the beginning of next week is for more sunny skies and drier conditions, with the daytime temperatures going back up into the mid-20s and the night-time temperatures back up to around 10-12ºC.
