ARCHIVED - Abanilla, Murcia city and Cieza were some of the top 10 hottest places in Spain yesterday
These three municipalities in Murcia hit highs of over 33ºC on Monday

Although Monday was not forecast to be the hottest day this week, with that honour going to Thursday June 2 when the Murcia Region could see temperatures up to 38ºC, there were still three municipalities in the Region that made it into the top 10 list of hottest places in the country on May 30.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the temperature at the hottest part of the day in Abanilla, 5.10pm, reached 33.7ºC, while in Murcia it was 33.4ºC at 4.20pm and in Cieza it was 33.2ºC at 6.10pm.
The hottest place in Spain was Xativa in Valencia, where thermometers recorded a maximum of 34.6ºC. The towns of Elche, Orihuela and Rojales in Alicante province also came in the top 10, as did Vélez-Málaga in Andalucía.
Temperatures are expected to remain steady at this high level all week.
