Aguilas gets new police dog unit to help stop drugs
The Local Police force of Águilas has launched a new canine unit specialised in the detection of narcotic substances
This September, a brand-new canine unit set up to reinforce public safety in the Murcia coastal municipality of Águilas was presented at the headquarters of the Local Police force.
This specialised unit, in the words of Police Subinspector Francisco Navarro, who is the driving force behind the project, “will be fundamental in improving the capacity to respond to emergency situations and the detection of illegal substances”.
Arex and Loba are the two dogs that are currently in the training phase, assisted by their handlers, who are also receiving the necessary training to carry out this work.
“We are convinced that having Arex and Loba on our streets, along with their canine guides, will help us a lot to improve public safety in our municipality,” said the Councillor for Public Safety in Águilas, Cristóbal Casado.
In addition, these two new doggy drug detectors will also be called upon to participate in activities in local schools, helping to raise public awareness among young people of the responsibility involved in dog ownership.
