Click HereThe Noche de San Juan 2021 will be remembered as the year when the Noche de San Juan was cancelled in many coastal areas of Spain, as the list of councils cancelling all of the normal beach celebrations continues to expand (all beach parties have been cancelled in the neighbouring Almeria municipalities bordering with Águilas).
It’s normal for families and friends to gather and light bonfires on the beach, enjoying music, food and fireworks, beaches packed with festive partygoers.
But not this year, as the risk of contracting Covid-19 is considered to still be too high to encourage large groups to drink alcohol and party!
Very often the larger gatherings are held by young people under 40, but most of this age group have not yet been vaccinated, so the risk of spreading Covid is therefore higher.
Even the normal organised council bonfire and party on the beach have been cancelled in Águilas for this year and in addition, police will be patrolling beachfronts to ensure that the regulations relating to group gatherings are being observed on the night of June 23-24.
