Aldi price promise: German chain vows to lower the cost of 400 products in Spain
The discount shopping brand is consistently cheaper than other leading supermarkets in Spain
Grocery costs are soaring higher than ever, impacting items like olive oil, bread, milk and fresh produce. But Germany's beloved Aldi supermarket chain looks set to swoop in to rescue Spanish households by reducing the prices of more than 400 goods.
During the first four months of 2024, the brand applied permanent discounts of as much as 23% to many items, helping loyal customers reduce the cost of their shopping trolleys. And since then, Aldi has reiterated its commitment to constantly reviewing prices and cutting costs wherever possible.
Focusing on its own brand products and items of Spanish origin, Aldi estimates that this latest initiative should save customers almost 105 euros.
Right now, 8 out of 10 items on Aldi’s shelves come from Spain and 9 out of 10 products are own brand. According to a recent study carried out by Kantar Worldpanel, customers who fill their shopping basket with only the German chain’s white label goods could save as much as 696.62 euros per year.
The supermarket chain is able to guarantee these savings thanks to its commitment to national producers, establishing long-term relationships of trust to adjust to supply and demand. Thanks to this commitment, Aldi has managed to remain a savings channel for families in Spain and contain the general rise in prices in the grocery sector.
Recognising the immense burden placed on cash-strapped families grappling with escalating food costs, Aldi continues championing customer satisfaction and loyalty by sustaining competitive rates.
Further data gathered by Kantar Worldpanel supports Aldi's impressive edge in the industry, revealing that the chain maintained lower prices than competitors in its consistent inventory range for the last two years. Compared to the Spanish market average, Aldi's fixed catalogue wrapped up 2023 at a full 12% below rival retailers.
