The section that was closed for the Plaza Mayor works near the Port has been reopened to traffic
The section of the Paseo Alfonso XII in Cartagena next to the port, which was closed since the beginning of August due to the refurbishment works taking place due to the first phase of the Plaza Mayor project, has now been reopened to traffic. As a result, vehicles can now circulate normally along the road as of this Monday, September 26.The road will remain open for vehicles to use, but will be closed for future major events such as local fiestas like the Carthagineses y Romanos festival in circumstances where exclusive pedestrian use is necessary and a lot of foot traffic is expected. The first phase of the Plaza Mayor project, which was inaugurated on September 15, aims to transform the seafront area around the Puerto de Cartagena to make it more integrated into the rest of the city, and the work is continuing right on schedule with the first phase having been accurately predicted to be completed in mid-September. In this way, work is being done to create a large space which will have cultural and leisure events and activities throughout the whole year.In total, the project will be developed over six phases, which will include the surroundings of the Santa Lucía administrative building, the reform of the dry dock and the fishing dock, the promenade of La Marina and the cruise terminal and the development of the area around the city wall.Images: Ayuntamiento de Cartagena
