Several parks, green areas and playgrounds in Alhama will be updated and improved

Alhama de Murcia invests in municipal gardens

Alhama de Murcia Town Council has announced a huge overhaul of the municipality’s public gardens, which will involve revamps in several well-used playgrounds, parks and green areas.

Officials, including Pedro José López, Councillor for Districts, Parks and Gardens, and Miriam Díaz, Councillor for Infrastructure and Public Services, went to take a look at the developments in the El Cañarico district on Monday morning.

Works started on April 8 and are expected to wrap up within the next two and a half months.

Here's a summary of the projects scheduled for each garden:

Jardín de Nochebuena: Children's play area gets a revamped pavement.
Jardín de Santa Bárbara: Shade structure constructed over a play area.
Jardín de La Muela: Canopy erected over a play area and pavement upgrade.
La Boquera Playground: Perimeter fence repaired and refurbished.
Jardín de Las Américas: Artificial grass flooring laid in the kids' play area.
Jardín del Voluntariado: Cover installed over the play area and updated equipment.
Jardín del Parque Infantil de Tráfico: Recycled rubber flooring replaced, new games introduced.
Jardín Simón García: Rubber flooring update and fresh recreation components.
El Palmeral Park: Installing boundary fences and adjustments to existing ones.
Calle Villalar Playground: Repair and renovation of the play area's perimeter fence.
Cañarico Viejo Playground: Sunshade structure built in the play area.
Cañarico Pueblo Nuevo Playground: Updated pavement in the kids' zone.

Alhama de Murcia Tourist information office is located on the edge of the Plaza de la Constitución, just a few metres away from the underground car park and the Town hall of Alhama de Murcia.

The tourist office offers free guided audiotours in English which take visitors around the historical sites of interest in Alhama. These be loaned at any time, although allow an hour and a half to complete the tour, and when loaning the audio equipment visitors are asked to leave passports or ID cards with the tourist office.

The office also carries a full range of leaflets for the archaeological museum of Los Baños, which is built around the historic spa which gives Alhama its name, and the mountains of Sierra Espuña, which is also an important area within the municipality of Alhama. Areas such as El Berro and Gebas have a number of interesting routes which can be followed and there are several picnic areas and good walking routes within the Sierra Espuña natural park.

The tourist office also carries leaflets for the many cultural events and fiestas which take place in Alhama throughout the year, including Los Mayos, Semana Santa, Christmas,the Romería of La Candelaria and the Auto de los Reyes Magos in El Berro.
