With an investment of 114,000 euros, Almería City Council has started work on the installation of photovoltaic sonar energy panels on top of the headquarters of the Local Police.
The installation of more than 200 solar panels for self-consumption in this property will be completed this month, November 2023, and is part of a raft of initiatives to improve sustainability in the city within the framework of the Almería 2030 Strategic Plan.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the city has managed to reduce its CO2 emissions by an impressive 1,800 tonnes per year and saved 600,000 euros in electricity costs thanks to solar energy.
Local solar energy experts, Sunergy Almeria, explained that the province is uniquely situated for companies and homeowners to be able to profit from the installation of solar panels thanks to the fact that it has over 3,300 sunshine hours each year, making it one of the sunniest places in all of Europe.
The use of renewable solar energy will soon be rolled out to other municipal facilities in Almería, including the Maestro Padilla Auditorium, which joins those already completed at the municipal golf course ‘Alborán Golf’ and at the Interalmería TV facilities, where one hundred percent of the energy consumption of this facility is through solar energy.
