Almeria sees drop in UK and German tourists this summer while French, Belgian and Dutch surge
The province’s appeal continues to grow with a significant rise in tourists from neighbouring European countries while British visitor numbers dip slightly
Tourism in Almería has seen a notable shift this summer, with a significant increase in visitors from France, Belgium and the Netherlands. While British and German tourists have traditionally been the leading foreign visitors to the province, their numbers dipped slightly during June and July 2024.
British tourists, despite remaining the largest group with 45,800 visitors over these two months, experienced a 3.7% decrease. Germans, the fifth most numerous, saw a modest rise of 4.4% in June and July.
In contrast, the number of French, Belgian and Dutch tourists surged. Almería welcomed 26,825 French tourists, marking a 12.5% increase, while Belgian visitors grew by 8.5% to 15,973. The most dramatic growth was seen among Dutch tourists, whose numbers soared by 24% to 15,531.
Throughout the year, French tourists have been particularly consistent, with 66,926 visiting Almería so far, solidifying their position as the second most frequent visitors. Dutch tourists also showed strong loyalty, with 43,120 visiting the province in 2024, placing them third overall.
Despite the slight dip in British and German tourism, the overall growth in visitors from these neighbouring European countries highlights Almería’s expanding appeal as a summer destination. The province’s tourism sector is expected to benefit from this trend, especially as the good weather means the summer season extends into September and October.
