ARCHIVED - Almeria towns unite to ban San Juan beach parties
Mojácar, Garrucha, Vera, Pulpí and Cuevas del Almanzora; five towns in the Levante area of Almeria (Andalusia) have sat down and agreed on measures to avoid beach parties on 23 June as a precaution.
There will be no beach parties in Mojácar, Garrucha, Vera, Pulpí or Cuevas del Almanzora this year to celebrate San Juan as the mayors of the five towns have joined forces and banned them.
Although the Levante area has been at a low-risk level for some weeks, the authorities have decided that it is better to be safe than sorry and have suspended traditional San Juan activities on the evening of 23 June in order to protect public health.
Bonfires and barbecues on the beaches will be strictly forbidden, and the same goes for group gatherings or ‘botellones’, which are also forbidden in all other public areas.
As per current regulations, bars and restaurants will be allowed to reach 75 per cent of their capacity indoors, with no more than eight customers per table, or 100 per cent capacity and no more than ten customers per table on terraces. Bars must continue to close at midnight, while nightlife venues may remain open until 2 am.
