Andalusia to begin vaccinating against Covid and flu this October
The Ministry of Health has explained that it is waiting to receive the booster doses for Coronavirus which are adapted to the new Eris variant
Faced with a worrying rise in the number of Covid-19 cases once again and the imminent return of the cold weather in the autumn/winter season, the Autonomous Community of Andalucía, including the Costa del Sol, is the latest region of Spain to announce that it will be giving out joint Covid and flu vaccinations from mid-October.
In the Valencian Community, these Covid and flu jabs will also begin to be issued from the week October 16 to 23.
The date on which the regional health authorities plan to begin the 2023 vaccination campaign in Andalusia is around Monday October 16, although the exact date is yet to be finalised.
To begin with, not everyone will be offered the dual dose, but it will be limited to certain at-risk groups. The usual yearly flu vaccination will be accompanied this year by a Covid-19 booster jab for “elderly and vulnerable people and also for health professionals”.
Andalusia’s Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs, Catalina García, said, “Older people are going to get vaccinated once, but they are not going to get vaccinated twice.”
She continued, “They are already vaccines adapted to the new variant. We already said in advance that Andalusia would not vaccinate with vaccines that were not adapted to the new variant because it would not make sense. But it is true that Europe has already made the purchase adapted to AXBB.1 But we have only one supplier at the moment, which is Pfizer.”
