April 11 Free guided hike in the mountains above Abarán
The route includes the Mirador de la Cruz and the Mortero de la Sierra del Oro
This free guided walk in the mountainous countryside close to Abarán in the Ricote Valley covers a 6.3-km route and is expected to last a leisurely three hours or so, beginning at 9.30.
Participants will climb into the mountains of the Sierra del Oro along the historic path known as the Camino de la Hoya del Pino, which used to be the main route of communication between the town of Abarán and the natural beauty spot. After that they follow the PR-MU 56 footpath uphill, crossing from the north-east of the mountain to the south face and passing the highest point in the Umbría del Mortero, named after the small hole in the rock which can be seen at the top.
Registration is available online here and those taking part are advised to wear appropriate clothes and footwear and to bring drinking water and a snack. Also recommendable are hiking poles, a windcheater and sunscreen.
The exact starting point will be sent to participants after registration.
