April 27 Free guided tour of La Manga IN ENGLISH explaining the origins and history of the Mar Menor
The Origin of the Mar Menor traces the ancient and modern history of La Manga
This 5-kilometre walking tour in La Manga begins at the bridge of El Estacio and the channel which enables boats to pass between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, and continues to the lighthouse, where information is given about the long history of the area. After seeing the water storage facilities which were used in the past by lighthouse-keepers and their families the route returns to the port, where it is still possible to see the home of Tomás Maestre (Sr Maestre was the man who is credited with “inventing” tourism in La Manga in the mid-20th century).
The tour, which is conducted in English, begins at 9.30 under the arches at the entrance to the Puerto Tomás Maestre, and is scheduled to last 2 hours, finishing in time for a leisurely lunch in La Manga!
There is no charge but prior booking is required here.

Oficina de Turismo de San Javier
The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
