ARCHIVED - easyJet announces new routes between Malaga and the UK
The airline will now operate 17 planes from its bases in Spain
Popular low-cost airline easyJet has announced three new routes between Malaga and the United Kingdom during the summer of 2022, when it will also unveil two brand new planes, bringing the total number at the Andalucía airport up to five.
The three new routes operating from easyJet’s base in Malaga, which was inaugurated in June, will link the city with London Southend, Birmingham and Edinburgh, increasing the total number of options from Malaga to 17.
The Southend connection will begin in May and include six weekly flights, there will be four between Malaga and Birmingham and three trips each week to and from Edinburgh.
General director of the airline, Javier Gandara, has confirmed that demand is still high despite the emergence of the Omicron variant, and that easyJet predicts that by the fourth quarter of 2022, capacity should have returned somewhere close to 2019 levels.
A total of eight new routes from Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Menorca have been announced by easyJet and they now operate 17 planes from Spain, representing a 50% increase in its fleet compared to before the pandemic.
The company also won widespread acclaim earlier this month when they assured they would refund flight tickets for anyone affected by the change of travel rules between the UK and Spain.
