ARCHIVED - easyJet refunds UK passengers unable to meet Spanish travel rules
The airline will allow families with unvaccinated teenagers to cancel their trips to Spain
As of this week, all passengers travelling to Spain from the UK must produce a valid vaccination certificate and can no longer use proof of a negative Covid test to enter the country. The measure has been adopted in an attempt to stem the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant, but has put a dampener on Christmas holiday plans for many families, as children aged between 12 and 18 also need to be double jabbed.
The issue is that most teens in Britain have only received one dose of the vaccination, but airline giant easyJet has offered families a lifeline by announcing that those affected by Spain’s new travel restrictions will be entitled to a free cancellation.
Customers with children who will not be vaccinated in time to enter Spain and have trips booked up until December 31 will receive a refund for these tickets but families need to be quick as the offer expires at midnight on December 5.
The director of customer and operations for easyJet, Matt Callaghan, added that the airline will be extending its cancellation for credit and free amend options for all other travellers over the festive period.
“We know just how special travelling at Christmas and New Year is for our customers, so we want to make sure we do the right thing”, he said.
