ARCHIVED - Europe’s Most Wanted fugitive captured by Spanish and German police
La Diabla stands accused of exploiting and trafficking women and transgender people throughout Spain and Germany
The National Police have arrested Leudis Isaac Corro Camacho, also known as ‘La Diabla’ in Hamburg, Germany, a fugitive wanted for her involvement in the sexual exploitation of multiple women and transgender people throughout Spain. She fled the country with her boyfriend, a former German police officer, when officials began investigating crimes in Aragon, Asturias and Catalonia almost a year ago, but was finally detained on December 1.
La Diabla, or Donatella as she was also called, had become the most wanted fugitive in Spain and has been on Europol’s list of most wanted criminals for a month. She will now be tried for crimes of human trafficking, money laundering and belonging to a criminal organisation.
Before going on the run from Spain, La Diabla recruited women and transsexuals from her home county of Venezuela and later forced them to get breast implants and liposuction before charging them 12,000 euros for the surgery. The victims were locked in flats in Oviedo and Barcelona where they worked as prostitutes to pay off their debt, with some also sent to Germany. When they were no longer profitable for the mafia network, they were "sold" to pimps and a hostess club located on the outskirts of Caspe in Zaragoza.
According to the National Police, officers spotted several sexual advertisements they believed were posted by La Diabla and passed this information on to the German BKA to investigate. In addition, anonymous tips were received through the Europe’s Most Wanted portal which led to officers eventually tracking the fugitive to Hamburg.
Europe’s Most Wanted 2021 is a campaign developed by Europol and currently contains 54 criminals from 23 different countries. Since its launch in 2016, a total of 41 people have been located and arrested.
