ARCHIVED - Guardia Civil ask for help to stop cruel hunting dog owners
Call 062 to report any incidents of cruelty towards hunting dogs in Spain
It’s no secret that hunting dogs in Spain aren’t always treated kindly by their owners and The dog breed most affected by animal cruelty are greyhounds, known as galgos in Spanish.
The situation is made worse by specialised mafias who sell greyhounds to unscrupulous people, disregarding and even killing all dogs who aren’t suitable for hunting purposes. These poor greyhounds are often simply thrown over fences at animal shelters, resulting in severe injuries, or abandoned in the countryside.
For this reason, the Guardia Civil has urged members of the public to call and report anything that may help them to track down these hunting dog mafias. The number for the Guardia Civil is 062 and the Seprona department (Nature and Wildlife Protection Services) will usually deal with animal cruelty crimes.
