ARCHIVED - Illegal dog fight probe after mutilated and skeletal remains of animals are found in Huelva
Animal rights party Pacma has provided evidence of possible dog fights to the courts in the Andalusian city
Mutilated animal corpses and skeletal remains have been discovered at an isolated farm in Huelva where live wounded dogs in a poor state of health were kept.
Appalled neighbours living near the site between the H-30 and the Estero del Rincón in the city contacted Pacma to report the animal abuse last month, and the party has now filed an official complaint with Huelva Court of Instruction.
In a statement, Pacma confirmed videos and images taken at the farm included scenes of "decapitated equines, mutilated or partially devoured animals, as well as multiple skeletal remains, amongst live dogs with wounds and visible poor state of health."
According to Pacma's lawyer, Dulce Aguilera, the pictures suggest possible illegal dog fighting and "constitute several criminal offenses" under article 337 of animal abuse and 325 against the environment.
"The skeletons could be compatible with several types of violence against animals and the carrying out of prohibited practices, amongst them, dog fighting, which is totally illegal in Spain."
For this reason, Pacma has filed a complaint with the courts to open a criminal investigation.
Only weeks ago, demonstrations against dog fighting were held in Tenerife during which protestors slammed "very poor sentencing" and "unsatisfactory" agreements which were reached between the Prosecutors' Office and defendants after a number of illegal dog fights were uncovered.
