ARCHIVED - Man gored to death during bull run in Spain
The victim died from massive blood loss in Onda, Spain
A 55-year-old man died on Saturday October 30 after he was gored in the leg during the celebration of the ‘bous al carrer’ bull run in Onda in Castellon. According to local sources, the bull’s horn severed the man’s femoral artery during the festivities and although he was immediately transferred to La Plana Hospital, he died a short time later from massive blood loss.
Although bull running events have now resumed throughout the country following the relaxation of coronavirus restrictions, this is the first fatality of its kind in recent months. Onda council representatives reported that the victim was repeatedly attacked by the animal and also suffered a serious head wound.
Festivals of this kind have long been controversial in Spain, with serious injuries common and animal activists campaigning against the cruelty of the events. During the celebrations, bulls are released onto sections of the street and participants race in front of them. In many cases, the animals are then involved in local bull fights following the street run.
