ARCHIVED - Morocco refuses to resume flights with Spain
The authorities have accused Spain of failing to comply with Covid health protocols
The Moroccan government announced on Monday December 20 that it will not be re-establishing flights with Spain after cancelling all international travel at the end of last month. According to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Health, Spain poses a “threat” to its citizens due to a “lack of compliance with the health protocols against Covid-19” and has criticised the Spanish administration for failing to control, in an “adequate and strict” manner, the health status of passengers.
Moreover, Morocco claims to have detected at least 19 positive cases of coronavirus in travellers from Spain, and maintains that Spanish airports aren’t being stringent enough in checking vaccination passports and Covid tests before allowing people to fly.
At the time of announcing that its airports would remain closed to Spanish travellers, Morocco confirmed that Portugal, and not Spain, will now serve as a starting point to repatriate Moroccans stranded in Europe back home.
According to the latest data, Morocco has registered one death and 102 new infections in the last 24 hours, while more than 22.8 million citizens are now double jabbed. In addition, Moroccan authorities have already administered the booster dose to 2.3 million people.
