ARCHIVED - New video shows La Palma volcano emitting gases
Scientists in Spain have released a new video of gases escaping from the Cumbre Vieja volcano
Involcan, Canary Islands Volcanology Institute, has detected a new emission of gases from a fissure in the Cumbre Vieja volcano that spent a full 85 days erupting on the island of La Palma late last year.
The lava flows from the volcano caused damage to hundreds of homes on the Spanish island, leaving many people destitute and in need of government assistance, and buried many banana plantations under mountains of volcanic ash, which affected the island’s main source of economic income.
Now, scientists have discovered abundant “outgassing” in the volcano’s edifice, and shared a recording of the escaping gases on their social media profiles.

However, the experts have ruled out the possibility that this outgassing could a sign that the volcano is becoming active again or about to erupt.
In fact, Involcan has assured that the escape of such gases “is normal at this stage of the process”.
