ARCHIVED - October unemployment in Spain falls for first time in 46 years
It marks the eighth consecutive month than unemployment levels have dropped in Spain
As Spain continues on its journey towards financial recovery, national sources have revealed that unemployment fell slightly during the month of October by 734 people, the first time it has done so since 1975, when these kinds of records first began.
So far, unemployment has continued to drop for eight consecutive months, despite the fact that last month was the one in which the fewest people left the unemployment lines. At the end of October, 3,257,068 people throughout Spain were officially registered as job seekers.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Social Security payments have confirmed that 19,662,163 were employed after 102,427 workers were added in October, which is also a new historical high. It is the sixth consecutive month where an increase in employment levels has been registered, with 642,539 additional workers registered since May this year.
