ARCHIVED - Rain returns in time for Easter: Spain weather forecast April 10-14
Storms will plague Spain at the beginning of Easter week before the sunshine returns
Easter is just around the corner and with March and the start of April proving to be a total washout, most of us are closely watching the forecast closely to make plans for the upcoming holidays.
The mass of cold air that has affected all of western Europe in recent days has brought torrential rain and even snow to much of the country, but the thermometers have taken an upswing on Thursday April 7 and most areas of Spain will experience fine weather this coming weekend.
Although spring is a very changeable time of the year, the experts generally foresee a certain instability until April 13-14, Wednesday and Holy Thursday this year. From then on, good weather is expected with progressively rising temperatures.
“Palm Sunday (April 10) will have a very spring-like atmosphere, hot in the middle of the day in most regions, with a significant rise in temperatures in the extreme north of the peninsula,” meteorologist Jose Miguel Viñas explained.
But on Monday April 11 the outlook will radically change due to the “arrival of a trough plagued by storms.” This weather front from The Azores region in Portugal will gradually move eastwards, bringing strong winds and heavy rain that is unlikely to subside until Wednesday April 13.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), “it is very likely that a front of certain activity will slowly sweep the Peninsula on these days from west to east, leaving cloudy or overcast skies in its wake and widespread rainfall, which will be more intense on Monday in areas of the peninsular western third, on Tuesday in the Pyrenees and the Strait area, and on Wednesday in areas of the eastern third.”
The unsettled weather will be short-lived, however, as an anticyclone is set to arrive on Thursday April 14 which will see “the sun shining in most of the country and temperatures rising," according to Mr Viñas.
"There is a possibility that, coinciding with the arrival of the weekend, the skies will cloud over in the north of the peninsula and there will be some rain. It is less likely that the weather will also change in the centre-south of the peninsula and in both archipelagos," he added.
