ARCHIVED - Repsol plans to help all of Spain go electric
The energy giant will have 1,000 electric car charging points in Spain by 2022
Opinion is certainly divided on the introduction of all-electric cars in the coming years to combat climate change but regardless which side of the fence consumers stand on, Spain has reaffirmed its commitment to prohibiting the sale and manufacture of combustion and emission-generating vehicles by 2040.
One of the main complaints from would-be purchasers, aside from the skyrocketing price of electricity in Spain, is the lack of charging points in this country. In order to make electric vehicles more attractive and convenient, energy giant Repsol has announced that it will have 1,000 public charge points throughout Spain and Portugal by the end of 2022. To meet this ambitious target, the company plans to install some 610 fast or ultra-fast stations over the next twelve months.
Repsol’s plan will involve an investment of 42.5 million euros and will provide a recharging point for every 50 kilometres of main road in Spain. Of the 610 new facilities, 18 will be ultra-fast with a charging power of up to 180 kW and 592 will be fast, at 50 kW. In all, 577 will be set up in Spain while the remaining 33 points are earmarked for neighbouring Portugal. In all cases, the energy they will use will come with a 100% renewable origin guarantee.
