ARCHIVED - Shakira attacked by wild boars in Barcelona park
The singing sensation published news of her traumatic experience in Spain on Instagram
Columbian pop star Shakira took to social media on Wednesday September 29 and shocked fans by claiming she was attacked by two wild boars while taking a walk through a park in Barcelona with her son Milan. In her Instagram story, which has since expired, the singer explained that the animals tried to grab her bag, which contained her mobile phone, before running off into the trees.
“Look at how two wild boars which attacked me in the park have left my bag,” she said in the video.
“They were taking my bag to the woods with my mobile phone in it,” Shakira added, while holding up the destroyed item which was recovered from the forest a short time later.
In a more humorous tone, the pop star then turned to her son Milan in the background and said:
“Milan, tell the truth. Say how your mummy stood up to the wild boars.”
Wild boar populations have exploded in Spain in recent years and during the coronavirus pandemic, they wandered unchecked through urban areas searching for food, causing widespread disruption and numerous traffic accidents. It is now estimated that more than 10 million of the animals exist across Europe, with many municipalities in Spain prohibiting residents from feeding the animals, which are known to carry a multitude of diseases and can often become aggressive.
