ARCHIVED - Spain braces itself for Hurricane Larry
The impending weather front will put Spain at risk of DANAS, storms and plummeting temperatures
Following on from the torrential DANA storms that hit much of Spain just a few days ago, the country is now bracing itself for the effects of Hurricane Larry which is expected to sweep across the United States and Canada this weekend. The category three hurricane is expected to be so strong that its effects will be felt throughout much of Europe, however, with Spain likely to be impacted from Sunday and into next week.
Although the hurricane itself is not predicted to touch down on mainland Spain, the winds of 285 kilometres an hour and ensuing tropical storm will certainly impact this country to varying degrees depending on how it evolves. Next week, the hurricane will develop into a deep storm in the middle of the North Atlantic.
Experts claim that the beginning of the so-called meteorological autumn in September will bring unstable weather in the coming days, with the addition of Hurricane Larry creating a subtropical air mass which will cause temperatures to rise significantly this weekend, before a new DANA weather front brings more rain to the northern part of Spain early next week. In addition, if the hurricane passes directly over Europe then Spain can expect a sharp drop in temperatures, with several fronts arriving from the northwest bringing storms and strong winds.
Of course, hurricanes are by their very nature unpredictable and with the situation constantly evolving it won’t become clear until later in the week the true impact Larry will have on Spain.
