ARCHIVED - Spain reaffirms its commitment to the fight against gender violence
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was supported in Spain this week
Spain is among many European countries that have been fighting hard against gender violence and advocating strongly for the rights of women.
While there is still a long way to go, 2021 marked the year which saw the lowest number of fatalities due to gender violence since records began in 2003.
That being said, one death is still too many, and this year, 37 women were murdered by their partners or ex-partners. In addition, children within homes and 24 orphans lost their lives.
Thursday November 25 was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and citizens all across Spain donned purple ribbons to highlight the cause.
