ARCHIVED - Spain to experience warmest New Years Eve in 20 years
Temperatures expected to be 10 to 15 degrees higher than usual in Spain
The weather so far in December has been unpredictable at best, with heavy snowstorms giving way to sunny skies across much of the country. While the Region of Murcia has already experienced unseasonably high temperatures of 26 degrees this week, the rest of Spain is expected to follow suit and welcome the New Year with record-breaking heat.
According to meteorologists, New Year’s Eve could see the mercury rise between 10 and 15 degrees above the norm, an extraordinary situation that would make December 31 the warmest in 20 years.
Before the sunhats come out of hibernation, however, the experts have warned that a couple of stormy days lay ahead.
The first of the bad weather will mainly affect the northern part of the country on Monday December 27, while the wind and rain will extend across Galicia and eastern parts of Spain on Tuesday with gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
But, for the rest of the week, sunshine and cloudless skies will predominate, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 25 degrees.
