ARCHIVED - Sports stadiums return to full capacity in Spain in March
Indoor and outdoor sporting venues in Spain will be allowed to fill to 100% capacity
The Minister of Health gave the green light on Wednesday February 16 for sports stadiums to return to 100% capacity from March “given the positive evaluation” of the pandemic. Carolina Darias broke the news on the same day that daily coronavirus infections plummeted in Spain and the cumulative incidence dropped to almost 1,000 cases – a level not seen since September last year.
Up until now, the capacity of sports stadiums has been limited to 85% in open spaces and 75% indoors; from the weekend beginning March 4, both indoor and outdoor venues can return to full capacity.
The measure has been agreed between the leaders of all the autonomous communities but some restrictions at sporting events remain in place: masks must still be worn at all times, and smoking, eating and drinking are strictly prohibited during matches.
