ARCHIVED - Teen meteorologist who predicted storm Filomena warns of similar episode
The young forecaster uses a traditional method of measuring meteorological phenomena
Fourteen-year-old Jorge Rey shot to fame when he accurately predicted storm Filomena using the ‘cabañuelas’ method of measuring the weather. Dating back to about 35,000 BC, the cabañuelas is a long-term weather prediction technique based on the observation of winds, clouds, tides and the behaviour of animals. By monitoring atmospheric changes, young Jorge warned of the torrential storm that paralysed much of Spain in January this year.
Now, employing the same method, the teenager has announced his weather forecast for 2022, and has indicated that Spain can expect “a harsh winter, a rainy spring and an unstable summer”. In addition, by observing the position of the moon, Jorge has warned that we could experience a storm similar to Filomena on January 24 next year.
